Jersey County Threatening a Public Official

Posted on Sep 12, 2014

My client was charged with Threatening a Public Official after the State's Attorney claimed he threatened him over the telephone.  The "victim" is the State's Attorney for Jersey County.  My client claims he merely called him to inquire whether a previously unfiled charge against him would be dismissed.  There is no independent evidence of what exactly was said between the two men.  My client was not questioned nor asked for his opinion prior to charges being filed.  The States Attorney stated to a newspaper reporter that my client threatened his family.  At the preliminary hearing the testifying officer said only a threat to the States Attorney himself was made, nothing was claimed against his family.

My client's bond was set at $500,000 initially.  We conducted a reduction hearing and his bond is currently $150,000.  He cannot post bond.  His trial is set for December 2, 2014.
