Former Judge Michael Cook begins his federal prison term today. This disposition took a long time before it was resolved. As a background, Judge Cook was in charge of the "drug court" in St. Clair County, Illinois. He had presided over many serious felony offenses during the time when he was alleged to have used heroin and other drugs on a regular basis. Some of the cases were retried after allegations were made that his use of drugs affected his ability to be fair and impartial while a sitting judge.
My question is this: do you believe this punishment was weak, fair, or overly severe?
